Your Best Choice
I would never lie by saying that one of the most affordable and best cameras is the Black Magic Cinema 6K camera. If you want to achieve high-quality visuals and convey emotion, choose this camera.
Why the Blackmagic Cinema Camera
When I first started filming with the BMCC, released back in 2012, I was amazed. There was nothing similar in this price range: great dynamic range, colors, and camera control were amazing. Now it’s 2024, and I have the Blackmagic 6K Cinema Camera Full Frame in my hands.
I don’t want to write detailed specs here, but I haven’t seen any other camera this affordable that fulfills most of my needs as a cinematographer. Its control is as simple as that of the Arri Alexa.
With this camera, you can film: music videos, short/feature films, real estate, and weddings.

False Colour – it never disappoints, very convenient, easy to work with.
Yes, many people wanted a BOX camera, and it has been released, but in my opinion, it doesn’t make a big difference. That’s why I recommend the Black Magic Cinema Camera and PYXIS.
Build Your Camera
If you want and plan to work on quality projects, this camera is for you. Yes, a single camera body doesn’t work alone; I bought the Tilta advanced cage, Mofage POCO adapter L mount to PL, I use Dzo Vespid lenses, SMALLRIG 3580 V-Mount Mini VB99 batteries, Tilta Nucleus M follow focus, and Samsung T7 SSD, etc.
You will also get a DaVinci Resolve Studio license included. Of course, everything costs money, but it’s worth it, worth it, worth it!
A Few Important Things
Full-frame filming – I have the ability to shoot in 3:2 open gate, so in post-production, I can reframe shots without losing quality.
ND filters – Unfortunately, this Blackmagic camera doesn’t have built-in ND filters. I ordered the Mofage POCO adapter, which includes ND filters. I have been waiting for this adapter for two months now because the company said they are out of stock.
RAW – The Blackmagic 6K Cinema Camera FF only shoots in RAW. However, it is compressed and takes up much less space. For example, when shooting in Open Gate 3:2, 25 FPS 3:1, a 2TB SSD can hold 1.8 hours of footage. This is one of the best codecs available.
Drawbacks
- Like any camera, it has its downsides: using the Blackmagic can be very tiring, it’s not very convenient, and there are a lot of cables.
- For many, the lack of autofocus is a drawback, but the recently released DJI lidar system allows you to attach any lens and have autofocus.
- It doesn’t have internal ND filters, which would definitely be convenient.
- It’s harder to mount on a gimbal and also difficult to hold due to its heavy weight.
However, in my opinion, it is the best low-budget camera!
